Larry was such a great person to spend time with and his knowledge of every subject was amazing. However, of all the things which impressed me the most was his constant love of family. Like the rest of us who travel frequently, he traveled because he had to not because he liked being away. I can’t remember one night away from home where we didn’t chat about Linda or the boys. His personality and passion was great and he could persuade just about anyone to see his way before the conversation ended. We will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

When I started my career with DoD, Larry took me under his wing and taught me a great deal about how things really work around the Department but more importantly he taught me about life. Everyone loved Larry. He was a great guy and IÆll never forget him. My favorite phrase from Larry that he would say to me and I guess to his boys as well, ôYou may be bigger but IÆll always be tougher and meaner.ö

What a shock. I worked for Larry at the US Army War College in Carlisle for about 7 years until we all got broken up because of the move of the finance office to Rome New York. I loved working for Larry. He was so funny and always took up for us with other divisions even if we did make a mistake. He would just reem us in private instead of public in front of the other division or even within our own division. I learned that valuable lesson from him when I became a supervisor. I still to this day talk about how Larry chose to supervise us and I will probably use him as an example of a wonderful boss till the day I go home to be with the Lord. I will surely find him when I get to heaven and thank him for the lessons he taught me. I will also tell him….I know it was you that played secret Santa and put the pointsettas on our desks at Christmas. No matter how much he denied it….we knew it was his big heart that did that. God love him…. I found out at one point that he was living in Gettysburg and that is where I transferred after the finance off closed down. I transfered to the Park Service here in Gettysburg. I looked and looked for him and made all kinds of inquiries to find him and pay him a visit but found out that he had moved again. I hold him dearly in my mind. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Linda,
It was an absolute joy to get to know you and Larry when Larry and I worked at DFAS Rome from 1995 – 1999. Larry was a GREAT Finance Officer and a wonderful person. I learned “lots” from him and he taught many at DFAS Rome this work. As he departed Rome, he planted so many seeds during his time at DFAS Rome. Those seeds he planted have flourished into a wonderful legacy that you and your sons can be very proud of. He was genuine, very smart, a people person, and a person dedicated to taking care of the customers. He was a real friend as he and I and many others worked side by side building DFAS Rome.
He had a special talent with people and this business. He could quote the regulation via volume, line, and page number like no one else. I always recall him saying to me: I am a jar head!!! And as we tried to get our kids to eat green vegatables, he would say, the only thing good that is green is money. 🙂 Our kids still to this date remember Larry for that quote.
He was a coworker, a friend, a confidant, and an all around good guy that I enjoyed being around. As he had a full and wonderful life, we wish you and the boys peace with knowing how much he was respected and liked throughout the Departmemnt of Defense!!!
We send our love, our prayers, and our thoughts to you and all at this time.

Rhonda Clark says
Larry was the finance director at DFAS ROME when I started at Rome in Sept 2005 after losing my job in the Griffiss AFB closing.I worked in Disbursing as a GS4 for the first year breaking down travel and VP vouchers. I kept bugging Larry to get me out of there because I was bored and I told him “he was wasting my talents”. He listened and promoted me to a GS5 in Travel. About 7 years later I became a GS8 supervisor. I am where I am today because Larry believed in me. Some folks were scared of him–not me… I used to tell him he was just a big teddy bear. What a super nice, intelligent and funny guy. I remember lots of Happy hours on Fridays at Bucky’s with Larry and the whole gang.I missed him when he left Rome. I saw him 2 years ago at Indy and I am saddened to know that I will never get a chance to see him again.
May God be with you all at this time. Take comfort in knowing that so many folks loved and respected him.

When I heard of Larry’s untimely passing, I thought back to the late 1990’s when Larry and I both worked at DFAS HQs Finance. I can still see Larry, as if it were yesterday, sharing a smoke with his colleagues on cold winter days outside the HQs building. Larry was a true finance professional, and he will be missed by his many friends and colleagues

It was a shock to receive the call early Sunday morning from his sister-in-law, MaryEllen with the news that Larry has passed. I worked with Linda in Transportation and then she suggested that I apply for the position as Larry’s secretary when he was at Carlisle Barracks. It was one of the best moves he and I ever made. He was a very gentle and caring man who always took care of “his” people. Linda know that you and your family are in our prayers. By the way—what is that story Larry would never allow you to tell?????
